erode腐ってだんだん悪くなる

As players get older and their skills begin to erode, teams either ask them to take a pay cut or release them. Rarely does the team give the player of McCardell's age more money based on the previous year's performance. Remember, NFL salaries are not guaranteed and, as we are finding out in the Ricky Williams fiasco, neither is signing a bonus. Remember it was John Lynch, the all-pro safety who commented, "There is no job security in the NFL." (More on Eddie George in my next column.)
